Motion control technology runs reliably with Gas springs and dampers for agricultural and construction machinery, and more

In the field, at the construction site, or installed in an ambulance or fire truck – in all of these applications, vehicles, machines, and trailers have to take on heavy loads. Stabilus Group gas springs and dampers primarily help create comfort, safety, and longevity here.

Healthier work – easier to focus

Our products support control and damping during lifting, lowering, and adjusting of hoods, panels, covers, hatches, and doors. Thanks to their compact design, they are easy to incorporate, even in the presence of critical installation parameters. In the driver’s seat, they compensate for bumpy surfaces to cushion uncomfortable impacts and support healthful working practices through ergonomic seating.

We draw on our experience to help drivers and operators gain valuable time and focus on the task at hand.

Cabin

Operators of agricultural and construction machines require ultimate comfort while they work and adjust the armrests, the steering wheel, and the joystick columns. Our gas springs ensure these elements can move easily, comfortably, and with minimal manual force. They also make it easier to open and close cabin windows and doors.

Functionality

Gas springs and hydraulic dampers ensure easy operation of panels, doors, and windows in the driver’s cabin. This is how they enable adaptation according to individual weight and kinematics.

Driver's seat

Potholes, gravel paths, furrows – that’s what the real day-to-day looks like for agricultural machines and for construction and commercial vehicles.

Even here, comfort is not a luxury, but rather the foundation for ergonomic work, reduced operator fatigue, and mitigated material wear. Our contribution: cushioning of impacts and vibrations as well as individualized adjustment of the backrest.

Functionality

The spring characteristics of our gas springs can be individually customized as needed. Critical factors are the weight of the operator as well as the characteristics of the ground being driven on.

Covers and maintenance panels

More devices, more functionality, more electronics – all of this gets tucked in behind covers and in hatches of modern machines and commercial vehicles.

It is of utmost importance in maintenance that all panels and covers open and close safely. There’s usually just one operator at the machine during such access. Easy access and comfortable opening are therefore a must. Likewise, open covers must be capable of being locked in position, because if they inadvertently slam shut, injuries and machine damage can quickly result.

Functionality

Perfectly coordinated gas springs from the Stabilus Group make easy and comfortable work out of opening all kinds of panels, small and large. In addition to the pure holding force of the spring, for added safety, an additional locking tube can be installed on the gas spring to hold it in the open position. It is then only possible to close the panel by intentionally actuating a knob. The damping action of the gas spring is primarily used to control the speed of panel movements and to reduce load on the chassis.

Storage compartments

Wherever work is getting done, there are bound to be plenty of small tools in addition to heavy machinery. Construction plans and important papers also need a secure place to be tucked away.

Chassis engineers have come up with clever solutions to make these storage spaces available. Aside from capacity, it is imperative that operation be quick, simple, and safe.

Functionality

Perfectly coordinated gas springs from the Stabilus Group make easy and comfortable work out of opening all manner of panels, small and large.

Engine hoods

A quick check, an adjustment, a small maintenance item – taking a look under the hood is part of the everyday work of using a commercial vehicle. Stabilus Group gas springs enable easy, comfortable opening and gentle, quiet closing. No feats of strength, no unwieldy prop rods – and neat and tidy, at that.  These characteristics are never lost, even at high temperatures and under dynamic loads.

Functionality

Thanks to the gas-spring support, you just need one hand to move the engine hood. Once open, the cover holds its position securely and reliably and won’t slam shut, unlike the typical result of an improperly engaged prop rod. Installation as far to the outside as possible keeps the engine compartment well accessible when there is little space. This means that you can install our maintenance-free gas springs wherever you like.

Steering dampers

Obstacles and unevenness along the road can make the tires run out of line. In such tricky driving situations, oftentimes the only way to keep the vehicle on its path is by swift counter-steering.

Particularly at high speeds, this can quickly become precarious. It’s a real plus when the steering system is equipped with hydraulic dampers from the Stabilus Group, as they take over most of the work for the driver.

Functionality

Hydraulic steering dampers substantially reduce the physical force required to compensate for unevenness and evade obstacles. Not to mention that they make a vital contribution toward the vehicle’s safety on the road, particularly when it comes to the transport of goods and hazardous goods. They make the driver’s job easier and provide a level of comfort that’s particularly important for the long haul.

Steering columns

Whether due to worker scheduling or because the vehicle is a fleet machine or a rental or lease, vehicle driver and operator swap-outs are part of the regular routine in agriculture and construction.

Natural differences in size and stature make it important to be able to adjust the steering wheel height to each individual person. Variable adjustment is possible with gas springs from the Stabilus Group. This is how we help prevent muscle tension and fatigue, thereby fundamentally contributing to safety, productivity, health, and job satisfaction.

Functionality

Our gas springs are integrated right into the steering column. Thanks to our special piston valve system, they make possible the exact operation needed in any position. When the valve is open, the spring provides force-assisted, damped, easy actuation and a controlled reaction. And when the valve is closed, the spring locks out, exerting great resistance to movement so the steering column doesn’t reset unintentionally.

Belt tensioning systems

A V-belt is something like the director in an engine compartment, so there’s one thing it must never do: break. A critical factor for a long, malfunction-free service life is that the tension remains at its optimal level. Hydraulic dampers from the Stabilus Group play an important role here.

Functionality

Our vibration dampers are an excellent choice for use in belt tensioning systems. They compensate for discrepancies in tension with ease. Permanent pretensioning of the belt along with reduced vibrations are how they guarantee quiet operation and a long service life.

Their technical properties set the foundation for this:

  • permanent extension force through external spring
  • no free travel
  • direct force-locking
  • damping forces in the push and pull directions
